I can tell the fatherhood is catching up to me. For the most part I can do fine keeping up with my family and ministry schedule. Every year I, along with a few other leaders, have the privilege of laying out all of our church’s activities on one master calendar. That takes a lot of work! But today, a doctor’s visit crept up on us.
How bad was it? Anabelle had been referred to a specialist and I couldn’t even remember for what reason! I know- hold your “Father of the Year” ballots. After filling out paperwork for the umpteenth time, we got to see Dr. Mancuso.
The concern was her upper and lower frenulum were not proportioned to her tongue and lips. Her lingual frenulum was too short, which limits her ability to stick her tongue out (which was fine with me) and her superior labial frenulum was oversized, which causes a gap between her front two top teeth (like Mike Tyson). Though these problems usually hinder a baby from eating, I can happily report, that’s not a problem for our Anabelle.
After being educated about the complications these frenulums could cause, we were advised to consider a small outpatient surgery called frenuloplasty. It is a five-minute, snip-snip, surgery! No needles, no anesthetics, no recovery time. She will probably have this surgery sometime this summer.
Let’s be honest, no parent (in their right mind) wants to ever hear the word “surgery” when it comes to their children. Yet I am comforted with such verses as “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee” or “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” God has known of Anabelle’s condition before we did! He definitely knew before the doctor did.
There is no attribute more comforting than the attribute of His sovereignty. Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe trials – we know that sovereignty has ordained affliction, that sovereignty overrules them, and that sovereignty will sanctify
them all. Praise God!
“Sovereignty is God’s exercise of His Supremacy – It is the absolute manner in which all things have been assigned their respective place.” ~ Dr. Paul Chappell
